UpMeals’ First Publicly Available SmartVending Machine Launches In Squamish

PlantX branded SmartVending Machine in Squamish

We are pleased to share that our first public-facing and plant-based vending machine is available in Squamish, British Columbia. This installation is a part of our expanded partnership with PlantX Life Inc. (“PlantX”), an e-commerce, plant-based food delivery company. Joining the 15,000 square foot campus, this machine will provide customers access to plant-based food, 24/7.

“We’ve seen an incredible uptake on our delicious plant-based meals in our SmartVending machine since it was installed at Locavore in Squamish,” said Drew Munro, Co-Founder and CEO of UpMeals. “Our plant-based food options have always been popular with our customers and this ease of access means our meals will be available to those who are searching for something healthy, delicious and sustainable, at any time of day.”

Continued Munro, “We have a fantastic partnership with PlantX helping them to serve the plant-based community delicious and ready-to-eat meals in Canada and soon into the US. The SmartVending machine has logged thousands of interactions and has sold out of salads, juices, wraps and entrees on a regular basis. We look forward to continuing to reach more customers through our unique food-technology solution”

Customers can choose from a selection of up to 35 meals, breakfast items, wraps, salad, juices and snacks. Each item is individually packaged in sustainable material and refrigerated in the temperature controlled SmartVending machine.

Currently, all other SmartVending machines are located at private businesses, so this is the first machine that allows meals to be purchased by the general public. Customers are encouraged to visit the PlantX campus located at 1861 Mamquam Rd, Squamish.

Today, UpMeals is happy to announce we are expanding our partnership with PlantX Life Inc. (CSE: VEGA) (Frankfurt: WNT1) (OTCQB: PLTXF) (“PlantX”), a multifaceted e-commerce platform for all things plant-based. This partnership will bring our UpMeals platform into the U.S. market to help partners like PlantX service their customers with healthy, ready-to-eat branded meals, customized to their needs.

The partnership will be a collaboration with PlantX’s Chief Culinary Officer and celebrity vegan chef Matthew Kenney, who is leading recipe development out of Los Angeles. Leveraging the UpMeals platform, PlantX will be able to work with guest chefs and ambassadors to create and scale recipes for broad production and distribution in the U.S. Funneled through the UpMeals platform, collaborators can identify favourite ingredients, flavour profiles and cuisines of interest, select nutrition requirements, and develop scalable nutritious recipes.

“We look forward to expanding our existing partnership with PlantX by offering UpMeals’ custom-designed menu items down the West Coast and eventually into all 50 states,” said Drew Munro, Co-Founder and CEO of UpMeals. “Our plant-based food options are very popular and we know that U.S.-based PlantX customers will benefit from our variety of meals and snacks designed by professional chefs and holistic nutritionists. This is a fantastic opportunity to leverage the expertise of renowned vegan chef Matthew Kenney to deliver delicious plant-based meals to our customers.”

The UpMeals U.S. production HACCP compliant partner facility will prepare PlantX branded meal items using the proprietary UpMeals software system which expedites recipe planning through user feedback. Meals will include plant-based salads, wraps, treats, entrées, cold-pressed juices and more. These items will be boxed and shipped via overnight express directly to consumers’ doors once ordered on the PlantX website. The partnership will also explore SmartVending machine installations and retail opportunities across the U.S. using the UpMeals refrigerated vending machine and technology.

“The collaboration between UpMeals and PlantX will improve access to nutritious plant-based, ready-to-eat meals that our Canadian customers love and we know our U.S. counterparts will too,” said PlantX Founder, Sean Dollinger. “We understand UpMeals’ vision of making healthy food accessible 24/7, and look forward to creating a lasting partnership.”

The launch will commence later this summer.

UpMeals Announces Expanded Partnership with PlantX for Canada-Wide Plant-Based Meal Delivery

UpMeals is pleased to announce the expansion of PlantX’s Canadian meal delivery vertical through the addition of a second shipping day that will enhance PlantX’s outreach to its growing plant-based community.

Through its partnership with UpMeals, PlantX’s Canadian meal delivery service enables customers to order either a 3- or a 5- full days’ worth of nutritionally-balanced meals on PlantX’s Canadian e-commerce platform. Since its launch in August 2020, the meal delivery service in Canada has seen remarkable success, as reflected by a rising consumer demand that is now exceeding PlantX’s current capacity to serve its thriving customer-base. Therefore, PlantX has added a second delivery day for its current “set and forget” subscription-based meal program, with meals now being shipped across Canada twice a week, instead of just once a week as established previously. This will enable customers to have increased access to home-delivered meals throughout the entire week, as needed.

“We’re thrilled to see a surging demand for our fresh, healthy and delicious plant-based meals from PlantX customers,” said Drew Munro, Co-Founder and CEO of UpMeals. “Through our innovative platform, UpMeals will produce customized fresh meals for door-to-door delivery through overnight express shipping so PlantX customers can enjoy healthy meals, entrees and snacks, seven days a week.”

The global online food delivery services market is expected to reach $192.16 billion in 2025 at a CAGR of 11%1. According to Statistics Canada, an average of 23% of Canadians reported using meal delivery services during the pandemic2, while another research reports suggests that more than 71% of Canadians are expecting to continue to order home-delivered meals at a higher rate than they did prior to the pandemic3

“Having easy access to healthy, nutritious and fresh meals has never been more relevant and in demand” said Julia Frank, PlantX CEO. “After the challenging year that we experienced as individuals and as a global community, it’s time to slowly recover and enjoy a summer with fewer restrictions, while eating well and feeling amazing and healthy. By increasing access to the PlantX home-delivered meals, we hope to meet our customers’ culinary needs and enhance their health and wellbeing throughout this transition period and beyond.”
